Luke's New Moves

Luke has finally gotten the hang of rolling over. It was a lot of work and a lot of tears. He finally figured out that tummy time was not going end just because he cried! I think he almost enjoyed it!
Getting ready.

Here I go!

That's much better.

You want me to do it again?!?

New Discoveries

Luke is discovering that not only does he have toes, but they are also attached to him. He is fascinated by them! He could stare at those little wiggly pigglys all day!

I smell bacon

We had a good time last night. Luke finally went to bed after a bit of a cranky day-think his teeth are moving again :( We did breakfast for dinner; French toast and yummy bacon. We curled up on the couch to watch a movie. Around 9:30 I could barely keep my eyes open and was sent to bed. I woke from a very peaceful sleep, looked up at my ceiling at the soft blue glow of my projection clock. 7:15! Wow, what a great night of sleep! Luke never even made a peep. Due to the lack of "peeping" from him, I wanted to go check and make sure he wasn't trying to smother himself, then I heard a small peep and my mind was put at ease.

I love the projection clock, it allows me to see the time without the burden of turning my head to look at my clock. You just open your eyes! The only down side to the clock is for those, like me, who are near sided. Usually I can make it out. It's sometimes tough to distinguish 5 from 6, but I make due. Well come to find out, it was not 7:15, it was 1:15 and I was wide awake. I must have been verbal with my disappointment because Alex woke up and I said "Do you know it's 1:15?" He responded "Thanks" and went back to sleep. He's not helpful.

So as I stared at my projection clock, secretly cursing it, I began to think of things. Lots of things. Like, "I hope Luke isn't trying to smother himself". So I woke up Alex to ask if he removed all the blankets from his crib when he put him to bed. He said he laid him on the blanket, and then promptly went back to sleep. Now I have a visual of my little Houdini managing to get his arms free of his swaddle blanket a.k.a. straight jacket, and pulling the blanket out from under him and covering his head with it. So yes, I got up to remove the blanket.

2:45am I had this conversation
Me: (whispering with authority) Alex?
Alex: Yeah?
Me: I smell bacon
Alex: Yeah?
Me: I think that's why I can't sleep.
Alex: Oh yeah?
Me: Yeah. Do you have that problem?
Alex: Being unable to sleep due to the smelling of bacon? No.
Me: Okay. night-night.

3:40am
Me: Alex?
no response...

I finally fell asleep somewhere around 4:15 only to be awaken by screaming from Luke. He's been spitting up A LOT lately and after 4 outfit changed for Luke and 3 for me, I decided I would try a sample of the soy formula. It says on the label for "Fussiness, gas, and spit up"...sounded good to me! He ate it down with no problem. Until apparently 4:30. He was arching his back, pulling his legs up, screaming a totally new scream. I rocked him for an hour and a half until he calmed down. Of course I cried because it was my fault. I would have rather changed clothes all day than see him like that. So I got to bed a little before 6am. Luke woke up at 6:30.

He's still upset about the whole thing. We're staying in our jammies today and watching CNN. I even let him sleep next to me in bed, seeking forgiveness. I just wanted him to sleep. Of course I didn't sleep for fear of smothering him. It's proving quite hard to be a Mom and a Labor & Delivery and Neonatal nurse. I know everything I shouldn't do. He's now sleeping in his bed, stripped of all blankets, so here's hoping I can get a little nap in before he's up again. However, I do still smell bacon...

It's baaaack

It's been a while since I have done this, so I'm gonna do more than this past week.

I did not take my Christmas tree down a week after Christmas. Those who know me know the trees stay up until February. I most certainly would not be so Scroogey & brush the holidays away so quickly just to get my life back to normal.

I did not re-gift any gifts...

I did not send Luke to daycare on my days off last week. What kind of mother would do that? All I know is I did not get the house cleaned, and my grocery shopping done, and have lunch with a friend, and go to the mall. Nope! Not me.

I did not just give my friend Julie her bachelorette party gift last week. She has not been married since fall 2007.

Speaking of being timely with gifts, I did not just mail my friend Brandy her Christmas gift. If I had, she should consider herself lucky, unlike Julie.

After a tiring day at work I did not have this conversation with my husband
Me: If people say "32 degrees" and "-1 degree" is it "-4 degrees" or "-4 degree"?
Alex: (blank stare)
Me: Nevermind, I'm retarded.
For some reason I suddenly thought the word degree was singular or plural based on whether it was below or above zero...man, when does the "placenta brain" stop?

I did not go to work all week without a single picture of my baby. I was not told I was a bad mother on several occasions. My co-workers are way too sweet to say something so mean!

I did not immediately come home and put a picture in my wallet.

I did not guilt my husband into going to Bed Bath & Beyond to get me a Snuggie. I do not adore it. It is not so cozy warm. However, I did not trip on it several times because it's so long. I also did not shock myself all night due to the incredible amount of static produced by that blanket with sleeves.

I did not go to Iowa with the intention of not ever wanting to live there. I did not really like it. I could not see myself raising my family there. I did not find my dream house. It was not built in 1845. Abraham Lincoln did not stay there. (OH YES HE DID!!!)

I am not beyond excited for the Inauguration. I am not planning on getting snacks and sitting on the couch with Luke watching CNN all day! We can't wait!

I am doing my project 365- my 1 picture a day thing. I am not taking 15 pictures a day. That would be a bit much and too confusing.

I did not write this on Sunday while my baby was napping and schedule it to be posted on Monday morning so I don't forget.

Luke's new ride

Luke has started to enjoy his new car. His feet finally touch the ground and occasionally he accidentally hits the buttons to make the engine rev or the creepy children laugh. He enjoys having new things to play with, he just isn't real sure how to play with them. He just sits and smiles.

This little boy loves to admire his reflection! He's so vain...

Always check your mirrors!

This may be the goofiest smile yet!

Project 365

So this is my latest obsession. The idea is, you take a picture everyday for a year and put it in this album. I cannot express how obsessed I have become with this. I am a wanna-be scrapbooker. It's forced creativity for me and I really don't enjoy it. Not to mention, it's expensive! That is why I LOVE this! This is soooo easy. No cutting, no matching paper, no ribbons and stickers and brads. You just stick the pictures in and write a few words about it! Fantastic!! Not to mention the kit was only about $40 ( $150 on ebay cause the kit's sold out now...crazies). So now I spend much of my day thinking about what I should take a picture of. I'm making every effort to not make each picture of Luke. I have been somewhat successful these first 13 days. Anyway, I have been borderline giddy since Molly said the kits arrived, she ordered 2 and was kind enough to sell me one, so I didn't have to pay $150 on ebay. Did I mention that is crazy? I finally picked it up from her today and immediately went to work. I have only slightly neglected my child for this project. I am sure he understands, I mean there are 352 days left...
You can find out what all comes in the kit here

Road trip!

We went to Burlington Iowa for the weekend. Luke did great considering he was in a car seat most of the weekend. He only fussed once on the way there because, darn it, he was hungry and we weren't stopping. So he has now been to Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois. Very well traveled boy. Of course, he did sleep through Missouri and our 2 minute venture to Illinois, just to say he went there. I'd like to give a special thank you to Aunt Amy and Uncle Paul for the caterpillar. He loves it and it has saved us on many occasions! I would also like to give a shout out to who ever created this green froggy lovey! He pets it while he is falling asleep...adorable!

4 hours 35 minutes into trip

Luke's favorite new book

My favorite things!

I crave both of these scrumptious delights!

Nothing like a little product placement.

Oh the Humanity!

I don't know what this rat gets paid, but it can't be enough to endure the beating he took at the hands of some 6 year olds. We went to Chuck E. Cheese for my nieces birthday party last night. It was quite exciting and a bit scary, mainly for Chuck E. I figure the poor kid in the rat costume promptly quit after the birthday parties. Amidst the screams of the children was a barely audible plea of a worker saying "Be nice to Chuck E. Touch nice". It was a hoot!
Of course, Luke slept through most of it and when he was awake, really could have cared less about all the lights and noise. A few more years I suppose...

Pretty sure this kid's gonna be a dentist

Lordy Lordy, look who's

3 months!!! My goodness Cheeks McGee, I can't believe how fast time is flying by! You've had a very busy 3 months filled with lots of firsts. First Halloween, first election, first date, first Thanksgiving, first night without Mom & Dad, first Christmas, first time meeting your entire family, first New Years, first day at daycare. Man, you're one busy boy. You're quite the kicker now, especially on your changing table. You also have started babbling a lot more, which always makes us laugh. Not at you, of course, but not quite with you either! I've heard you laugh twice now. Once in your bouncy seat and once while staring at the corner just over my shoulder...kinda creepy, but still cute. Who was it that was making you giggle? Of course I have my ideas. Whatever the reason, my heart smiles when you giggle!

3 months is a milestone birthday that comes with lots of responsibility. You can now start wearing cute jeans and corduroy pants, and khakis instead of those silly sweat pants mommy hates so much. Wear them well little man-the ladies are watching. It's also a time to start working on rolling over. Yes, that means tummy time. Buck up big boy, we know you can do it. We can't wait to see what firsts this next month brings. We love you oodles!

A much happier baby

Luke did much better on day 2 at Miss Angel's. Happier baby, happier momma.

A very poopy day

Luke had his first day at Miss Angel's yesterday. I guess he had an okay day with the exception of three poopy diapers, two of which were a bit painful and not enjoyable for little McGee. Of course that made me cry. I managed to get through the day without calling to check on him. I didn't want to be "that mom" and I also knew if I heard him crying I would have a meltdown and have to go get him. So instead, I had Molly call to check on him and call me with the report. That doesn't count right? I can only apologize to Miss Angel for the diapers! That is definitely not his usual routine. Hopefully tomorrow will be better for both of them!

Back to the grind stone

Well, New Years Eve was my first day back to work. Let's just say it went as I expected :) My morning started off fine, a bit nervous about remembering how to do my job after 3 months. I was not at all concerned about a day without Luke. After all, I'd left him before. So on my way out, I peeked in to give him a kiss and of course he woke up, looked at me, and gave me a Mayor McCheese grin, and fell back to sleep. I of course began sobbing. I don't know why, but I did. Once I got in the car, I was fine. But I've never been so happy to get home and hug my baby in my life! It was an exciting New Years Eve. I believe I made it to 9:35pm. I was somewhat disheartened to learn my 5 year old niece managed to stay up until 11pm! I'm so old...but well rested. Hope you all have a wonderful 2009!

A picture, only because I get in trouble with Grandma for posts without a picture of her baby.

Luke's favorite new toys

Of all the new fantastic toys little McGee got for Christmas, all he wants to play with are his hands and his tongue! He plays with his hands constantly. Folding them, clenching them, staring at them, licking them. If his tongue isn't sticking out of his mouth, his hands are going into it! And it's twice as thrilling when he grabs his tongue! Oh my brilliant boy!

A hint of Michael Jordan

What do they say about idle hands??
