Truthful Tuesday

So I was a bit lazy on Monday and skipped out on the Not Me Monday post. However, I will share this little tidbit of my mothering skills. Today was my MOPS meeting. It started at 9:15, those who know me, know I am ALWAYS early to everything. For whatever reason, I needed a diet coke this morning. Actually, I needed a Sonic diet coke. In order to do that, I had to leave earlier than planned, so I hurried about the house getting Luke and myself ready. I got my delicious diet coke and went on to the meeting. About 11am, Luke started fussing, getting hungry. I looked in my diaper bag. I had water. I had formula. I had no bottle. I forgot to put one in his bag as I hurried about the house. I knew there wasn't one in there before I left. I just forgot to put one back. So I had to escape early before Dr. Poopsie started screaming. I am such a good mom. That diet coke was FANTASTIC!

I love this Dr. Poopsie shirt. It just makes me smile.
While some might find this picture disgusting, such as myself, this is how he usually looks these days. So gross. So adorable.

He's no David Lee Roth

but he sure does JUMP. Mr. Lanky is now long enough to touch the ground. While he loves jumping, he's still a bit unsure about this contraption.

Busy hands

Luke has really started to enjoy playing. He has figured out that his hands are connected to his body and they can be used to get what he wants. Like toys!! He does have some busy little pinchers, especially when they are not in his mouth!

Mo' toys. Mo' Problems

On a happier note..

Luke had his 4 month check up today and he is doing great! He now weighs 14lbs 2oz and is 26 inches long! His length jumped up to the 95th percentile! He is still 50% in everything else. He did not have an enjoyable time there. It was fine until the nurse pulled on the tape measure and it made a very loud clicking noise that made Luke jump and sent him into a screaming fit. He does not like to be startled. He did the same thing to me when I was changing his diaper this morning and I dared to sneeze. It was horrible. It was pretty much down hill from there. I was explaining to his doctor (who I work with) about his spitting up when he, on cue and in exorcist fashion, spit up all over the three of us. Way to go Luker! I offered to go get her some scrubs from our unit, but she was kind and said it was no big deal. I however, who was also covered in partially digested formula, thought it was a big deal and could not wait to get home and changed. Maybe because I'm a newbie. Then the 3 shots came out and...well, let's not talk about that ever again. All and all he's a healthy growing boy and we are so thankful!

Love on your kiddos!

I recently read, thanks Molly, about this family- http://themcclenahans.blogspot.com/ - and their heart wrenching story which made me immediately go love on my baby, even though he was sleeping so peacefully in his bed. So many of us are so lucky to have healthy kiddos and we should never take that for granted. This link will take you to a fabulous little shopping website with lots of fun gifts. The proceeds from these items on Etsy will go to help build a playground in Cora Paige's memory. I know lots of people having babies soon and I am buying lots of fun little gifts. Hope you'll join me! Now go hug someone you love!

Who could puke on Elvis?

A friend of mine at work made these FABULOUS Elvis burp cloths and blankets for Luke. We love them!!! Thanks Elizabeth!

V-Day

We had a very nice Valentine's Day! Alex & I celebrated early by going out to lunch Friday afternoon. We went to O'Dowds on the Plaza, it was super yummy comfort food for a cold, gloomy day.
Luke really enjoyed getting his card on Valentine's Day, he liked his lions mane.

We then took a very romantic trip to Sam's to get formula.
Of course Luke was thrilled to be all bundled up!
One red balloon. $1.97
An excruciating trip to Wal-Mart on a Friday night $40.00
Another happy day for Luker...Priceless.

We finished out our day by making our Second Annual Valentine's Breakfast for Dinner: French Toast, hashbrown casserole, and fruit salad. Yummy. And of course, it wouldn't be Valentine's day without cuddling up on the couch watching a romantic movie...Like the Dark Knight. It was a perfect day!!

Trying something new out...

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope your day is filled with all the things you love!

Good news...I think

I am not a total disaster! I went to the Chiropractor today because both Alex & I were tired of me waking up crying every time I tried to roll over in bed. And this was my other option.

Looks dangerous, right? I know. I decided to seek professional help instead of SkyMall. The Dr ran me through all sorts of tests, most of which I failed until I was able to put my hands together over my head without flinching. He was borderline giddy and exclaimed "See! You're not a total disaster!"...yea!!? Apparently we have a lot of work to do, which I knew. He wasn't even able to manipulate me too much because I was so "locked up" but I do feel better after what we were able to do. At least I can twist without feeling like I just got shanked in the prison yard.

I'll keep you posted, because I am sure it will be a fun journey, especially when they put me on "the rack"...

Not me! Monday

As I type this post, it is still Monday, so it counts!

This past week I did not watch my first KU basketball game of the season. I am a fan. I have always put KU first (which is why it took me 5 1/2 years to graduate...I was holding out for a championship-little did I know I would have to wait 13 years. I couldn't hold out that long. You're welcome Mom & Dad).

I have not started making Luke wear bibs full time and also tuck a burp cloth in his pants to save me from having to change clothes when he spits up...which he does constantly. I am not that lazy! And heaven knows he has plenty of clothes to change into.

I did not eat out for lunch 3 times last week. I'm saving money and calories, so I definitely would not have done that, even if said lunches were with good friends. So I know, no one saw me at Panera, Chick-fil-a, or Mi Ranchito...

I did not force Luke to participate in an hour and a half long photo shoot trying to figure out how changing the aperture on my camera affected the pictures I was taking.

I then did not have to re-set my camera to it's default settings because I had it all sorts of screwed up! I also then did not look for photography classes at the community college.

I did not wake up to Luke crying at 3:15am (because he had turned himself sideways and his forehead was pressed against the crib...bless his heart). I then did not lay there until 3:33, just so I could make a wish. That would be crazy. For heaven's sake, go to bed! I then was not completely awake because I was so focused on the clock. I then did not play "What time is it?" by myself until 4:14. " What time is it?" is a fun little game my friend Julie and I played all through college and nursing school. Instead of paying attention and taking notes and learning, and stuff, we would periodically ask "What time is it?" and the other person would have to guess. We got pretty good at it. Julie is in CRNA school now...I'm sure she's paying attention. But if not, "What time is it, Julie?".

I did not lay awake last night at 3 am giggling to myself because I remembered this time in high school when we had to interview each other as a "get to know you" at the beginning of the year, regardless of the fact we all knew each other. This one girl put her favorite class as "Ho-Mech". I must have missed Ho Mechanics in the enrollment process, because I just took Home Ec. I am sure it wasn't nearly as interesting a class. I have lots of stories I could tell about that girl, one involving Jolly Ranchers and a dead mouse, but lets save that for another time...

I did not let Luke cry it out last night. Luke has been sleeping through the night for quite sometime now, so the fact that he was crying so much was foreign to me. I had no clue what to do other than let him cry. Alex then did not discover that he had a poopy diaper (Luke, not Alex) which is why he was crying. He did not fall right to sleep after being changed. I did not feel like a horrible mother for letting him cry while he filled his pants. Sorry Stinks McGee.

4 Months!

Luke, I cannot believe you are already 4 months old! You've done so many new things this past month. You're tolerating tummy time better, you're even rolling over when you're tired of tummy time. You talk constantly and sometimes, I think you're sassin' me. We definitely know those rare occasions when you are not happy with us. Those times mostly revolve around feeding time. It seems you go from happy to starving in 2 seconds! You are such a happy baby and have started giggling a lot. I love when you laugh with me, or at me for that matter. You've started grabbing for your toys, which then head straight to your slobbery-gooey mouth! You are absolutely a joy to us. I can't wait to see what new things you will do this month! We love you!

Houdini

This is how the adorable baby in the "Swaddle Me" advertisement looks-all snugly & cozy . This is how my adorable baby looks in the "Swaddle Me". You would think he would have to dislocate his shoulder to get that arm free! The sad thing is, he will not go to sleep unless he is in it, but must spend the whole night trying to get out of it. We figure it's a test of his determination. Bless his heart...

Happy Boy!

This may be the happiest baby in the world! He's becoming quite the giggler!
I love that he is so happy!!

Catching up!

This was a horrible, but addicting puzzle that Alex, his mother, & I worked on when we were in Wichita. It was crazy! You had to match the word to the definition. We all kept our sangfroid
while completing it.

A wild and crazy Super Bowl party...where Luke slept, go figure!

We spent part of the weekend in Topeka seeing family. Luke always has such a good time with his cousins Delainey & Reece.
