I love my mantle. Every time I see it, it fills me with Christmas joyo I especially love my ornament stocking holders. I love the idea of each of us having a special ornament (made by Grandma Barb) to have year after year. I'm sappy like that :)

They have the cutest stuff...for boys even!!! It has inspired me to start planning Luke's 3rd birthday...I mean really, it's only 10 months away...

Santa part deux...and other stuff

Our playgroups Christmas party was tonight. Claire got ALL sorts of dressed up. She was fascinated with Santa's beard. We think she's trying to convince him that she deserves to be on the "nice" list!

Luke had a blast. Mainly because there were balloons and children to chase him! His two favorite things :)

Of course, we had a moment of panicked pleading in the parking lot when we got there. He was positive we were taking him to "school" and there was no convincing him otherwise. I wanted to cry. I hate that we caused him so much anxiety! So we were so happy that he jumped right in to play with "fun kids".

Ah, so happy. I adore this boy.

Balloon fight!

I asked Luke if he would like to see Santa. Of course, he said "No, mommy. No Santa today!"
So we sat on the floor watching the other kids climb on and off Santa's lap. Then Santa gave the kids candy canes. As soon as Luke saw this, he shouted "Sucrets!" and pushed through the pile of kids, perhaps stepping on one or two on the way, went right up the the Jolly old elf and got him a "sucret"! So I guess, this is my Santa picture of Luke this year :)

Luke's crafts. He decorated the paper bag all by himself. He put the stars on his frame, and I didn't let him touch the painted ornament...that was Mommy's craft :)

I can't sleep. That usually doesn't happen to me! I have a lot on my mind-friends, family, Christmas-and I just can't get it to quiet down enough to rest. So what's one to do? Update the blog with random pictures that don't require a lot of thought! And because I despise Blogger, these pictures are out of order, but I'm out of patience to rearrange them.

See! Nothing to say about this picture...sometimes, words just aren't necessary!

Last week was our mom's group cookie exchange. It was awesome! 16 different types of cookies. I stole these pictures from Heather's blog because (gasp) I left the house without my camera!

It was a tasty, sickeningly sweet, tummy aching, lovely night with the ladies.

Then we headed to Topeka to see family and I journeyed on to Olathe for a Christmas Par-Tay. Good times had by all. However, it's always hard on me going because it reminds me of everything I miss. I think that has a lot to do with my current mental state. But I digress.
Grandma and I took the kiddos to the Kansas History Museum. Most of us had a good time:) It took Luke a bit to warm up since he thought he was going to "school" :( Boy did we screw him up with Kids Day Out. Once he did start playing, he spun the Wheel of Fortune. Shocking news!!! A Tobia might be a Scientist! Crazy, huh?

Luke watched Elf (or about 5 minutes of it) for the first time! He REALLY enjoyed those 5 minutes! I believe this is the part where Santa shows up. Surprisingly, he was not this excited when he actually saw Santa.

Claire learned to blow spit bubbles. Gross. So now we will be coordinating bibs with outfits.

Ah, and back to Santa. Here we are at the Reindeer Romp. Santa was a no go for Luke, but he did manage to score a "Sucret" from the Jolly old man. I did manage to get a cute picture of Santa and Claire and then a family picture with a very distrusting looking Luke. I'll post it later.

Claire was thrilled to be in ANOTHER tutu! It's rough being this adorable. I swear, 4 strangers pinched her cheeks at this event! Seriously folks, it's flu season. Keep your grubby hands off my baby's face.

Christmas Claire

I had big plans! That was my first mistake :) I decided to take advantage of a local photo place with a $9.95 package. I wanted ONE picture with both my children looking at me. So I scheduled the appointment, picked out the clothes, practiced "nice smiley faces" with Luke. We were ready. And then the morning of our appointment, Luke got the stomach flu. I rescheduled 4 days later...Luke still had the stomach flu. So I did what any good mother would do. I took my favorite daughter for a photo shoot alone. I should mention, I did this the day after Thanksgiving. I assumed everyone would be shopping. I greatly underestimated the number of families coming for pictures because everyone was in town for the holiday. It was packed and they were behind about 35 minutes. I was so glad I didn't take Luke!

Sweet Claire did awesome!

She did so awesome, instead of getting the $9.95 package, I spent $100. It didn't help that everyone waiting for pictures to be taken kept looking at my pictures on the screen saying "Oh, you HAVE to buy that one!".

Yes, she's adorable.

7 Months

I must have forgotten to blog about Sweet Claire's 7 month birthday because SHE CAN'T POSSIBLY BE 7 MONTHS! But apparently she is. And boy, is she busy!

Sweetness has mastered sitting, now she just needs to work on some defensive moves to avoid being tackled by her brother. She can get from point A to point B by rolling, inch-worming backwards, inch-worming on her back(which is interesting), and as of yesterday, army crawling in forward motion!

She is developing quite the palate and enjoying more and more foods! She still prefers fruit to her veggies, but she's getting better--still gagging, but less gagging. That's better, right?

Claire is one of the grabbiest (did I make that word up?) babies EVER. Nothing is safe within reach. And trust me, she will find a way to get it in reach! I don't remember Luke being that way. She is definitely a more inquisitive baby :)

I think this weekend we are finally giving up the baby car seat and installing the Big Girl Seat. Her dainty 20lb frame and the weight of the car seat are a bit much for my 34 year old back to be lugging around. I was hoping to make it through the winter so I wouldn't have to stand out in the cold buckling 2 kids in car seats, but no such luck! Why did I not get the minivan?!?!?

She's a sweet, happy, talkative little girl and we are so blessed to have her in our lives. Even if she is a horrible Momma's Girl. Which I secretly love!

A day in the life of a Big Brother (and a Zombie)

Lukisms

Luke: Ummm. No, I use my baby boy voice.
--at least he gave it some consideration.

Luke started off calling all of his grandparents "Grandpa". A few months later, he would say Grandma and Grandpa. Suddenly, now everyone is "Grandma". My mom was walking up to the door and Luke shouted "GRANDMA!!" and when he saw my dad following, he shouted "TWO GRANDMAS!" Bless his heart.

We were watching cartoon's and I said "Look! A woodpecker!" and Luke gave me that 'bless your heart' look and said "No Mommy, that's a Jayhawk".

If you don't watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, you won't get this one: Luke was walking around the house shouting "O Toodles! O Toodles!" and then he came over to me and sadly said "It doesn't work". I'm not sure what he felt he needed a Mouskatool for, but I feel kinda bad that he didn't get his problem solved :)

I don't know if Luke is scared of Santa or just doesn't want to sit on his lap, either way, he was not thrilled with the prospect of a photo with the jolly man. We sat at a table for a while watching all the other kids happily hop up and tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas and smile for pictures. Luke kept saying "Nice Santa. That's a nice Santa." then his alter ego Bossy McGee came out and shouted "WAIT YOUR TURN" to all the kids in line. Eat your "Sucret" and keep quiet.

Luke: Vitamins please?
Me: Sure.
Luke: I'll get a plate!
--huh? And he did put those two vitamins on a plate and ate them.

Me: Here's your drink.
Luke: I'm welcome.

These two really enjoy being siblings. You can see it in their faces. Sort of.
Claire likes to pull on Luke's shirt. Luke doesn't care for it. She thinks it's great.
You can almost hear him "Don't do dat, Quaires!", can't ya?
Strategy 1: Attempt to unclench hand from shirt and continue watching Chuggington.

Nice try, Luke. Claire doesn't give up that easy.

Strategy 2: Distraction. So a bunny on the head it is.

While not entirely effective, Luke finds it amusing.

Claire is sizing up the next part of the shirt to grab.

Strategy 3: Poke in the face
While occasionally effective, this one backfired as Claire saw an opportunity to chew on something. Nothing is safe within and inch of her mouth!(building antibodies, right?)

It seems Claire could use some chew toys for Christmas.

Strategy 4: Sit on your opponent

Unfortunately, 20lb Claire doesn't mind her 25lb brother sitting on her lap.
Uh-oh, where'd she go?Time for Mommy to intervene.

Luke Catch Up

A couple weekends ago, I deserted my family to go Christmas shopping back "home" in KC. Luke didn't seem to mind at all. He had a great day with Daddy and Grandma and Grandma (hee hee, sorry Paul).

They went to the park!

Luke made a new friend. Apparently, I really need to introduce him to more kids.
They finished up the night at the tree lighting in town.What good lookin' guys!
Pretty sure Luke is what Paul looked like as a child. I need to see pictures!

Words of Wisdom, by Luke

I read the cutest little post here on a friends blog, and it reminded me of all the funny little things Luke says and does. I decided those little gems need to be written down (or typed) so that I can look back and laugh some day.

As Luke had Claire pinned to the floor, she started crying and Luke said "Quaires, what wrong? You need a nap!". I think she just wanted her 25lb brother off of her, but I'm sure a nap wouldn't hurt either.

Luke: I need more milk!
Me: What do we say when we want more milk?
Luke: I say I need more milk!

As we were driving, Luke instructed me to "Go fast, Mommy!" I however was at a stop sign, so I explained that we can't always go fast to which Luke asked "Just a little bit fast?"

I worked very hard trying to make Luke understand that his Gummi vitamins were not candy. They were medicine, and only Mommy or Daddy should give him medicine. This plan backfired on me when kept asking for "medicine" at his Kids Day Out program when he really wanted fruit snacks. I got a lot of questions about that. Then we saw, hugged, and high fived Santa--but REFUSED to sit on his lap, whatever--and Santa gave Luke a sucker. To this day, he talks and asks about and for his "sucret". So now I am the mom of the little boy asking for medicine and sucrets...please don't call CPS on me.

We were brushing our teeth and afterward, Luke put a hand on my shoulder and said "Great brushing, Mommy" Thanks Luke.

I asked Luke to please sit down and eat his snack. He immediately started crying and went to his time out spot. Apparently, he has spent a moderate amount of time in time out.

Luke told me this morning that his milk was "mmmmm. tasty coffee!" Thadda boy!

His PTSD from Kids Day Out now has him saying "No fun today! No fun today!" DAILY. It seems he is traumatized by fun.

He will hand his sister a toy and as soon as she accepts it, he rips it out of her hand and shouts "Don't do that Quaires!" and then look at me and with the sweetest smile say "Nice sharing"...not quite, but nice try.

He is entertaining. Some days, I wish he didn't have such fantastic language skills :)

6 Months

Our sweet baby girl is half a year old already! She's more wonderful everyday.
She's a happy, singing (screeching) girl. We only see the pout occasionally, usually when not being held by Mommy :) She's getting better with her solid food. She is getting better and better at sitting.
She wants to play with her big brother SO BAD, but just ends up grabbing at him.
He loves it anyway.

18 pounds - 80th percentile
28 1/4 inches long - 99th percentile!!!
and 97th percentile in head circumference. BRILLIANT!

We love our big little girl.

Halloween 3, The Return of Dinosaur Luke

Halloween is FINALLY over! This has been the longest Halloween ever, mainly because it started for us on October 17th. Goodbye Halloween! And take your candy with you.

The boys had a fun time carving the pumpkins.
I had a good time gathering the pumpkin seeds.Luke was more interested in picking flowers than the pumpkins.

Claire had a great time, I guess.

Luke and I made some Mickey Mouse cookies. He did a fine decorating job.Apparently, it was as good as it looked.

Luke enjoyed the M&Ms. For some reason, he didn't seem to believe that there were only 2 M&Ms in the bag. Why would I lie about that?!

Sometimes Luke surprises me. When I bought his Halloween costume, I NEVER thought he would actually wear it. I certainly never thought he would wear it around the house, watching cartoons, or out in public. Surprise! I also never thought my more-often-than-not shy boy would go up to a stranger and say "Trick or Treat" (although sometimes he said "More please") get a treat and then say "Thank you". Surprise!

He's had so much fun gathering all his treats and seeing all the costumes this year. And don't get him started on the hayrides! It leads to a five minute conversation that consists of "I DID! I DID RIDE A TRACTOR! I DID!" over and over and over again.

And as usual, Claire could really care less.

Just a dragon watching Chuggington. The usual at our house.

Trunk or Treating at a local church. We had already been trick or treating and it was 82 degrees out so we did this sans dragon costume.
EMS was there so the kids could play in the ambulance. I love that Snow White and Jasmine are taking care of Sleeping Beauty.
What I love more, is that Sleep Beauty is still sporting her heels!
The highlight was the real Fire Truck. Someone was in heaven.
He's a good driver.
Aside from all the candy he scored, he got a freeze pop that proved to be his favorite!
Claire got all dressed up as well.
Could she be any sweeter?
Getting a little tired of all the festivities.
She loves to sing pretty songs. Ok, they may not be pretty, but they're LOUD.
And she's spent.
Oh the joy of a hayride!
We even had some Halloween fun at the Zoo!

Costume #2 for Claire-Hula Girl. She looked scrumptious.
This was the Halloween party for the Mom's Group we are in. Again, over 80 degrees so Luke was sans Dragon.

They had all sorts of crafts for the kiddos--and Alex.Happy Halloween!

This pretty much sums up my life lately. I'm not sure who turned 2 years old last week, Luke or me? Sometimes I feel like it's me. This parenting stuff is tough and not for the weak. I'm learning that it's hard to be the grown up sometimes when you are surrounded by whining. It's hard not to stoop to his level when every response to a statement or questions is a long exasperated "noooooooooo". There are many times when I would like to throw myself on the floor and say "all done"! No one gives me a treat when I use the big potty. No one excuses my grumpiness because I'm tired. There are many times I would like to put myself in time out or get sent to my room for some quiet time. But I don't. Or at least, I haven't yet.

I'm still the grown up, because I said so!

Fall Festival

After Luke's party, we headed down to a local small town Fall Festival. Fireworks and Funnel Cakes? Count me in!!
Not yet sweetness.
Until then, he gets to watch the big kids ride.
But we found some rides for Luke. He was not so sure about it.
Good thing Delainey was there for support.

And Reece was an excellent driver!

He's starting to enjoy it!

The more adventurous Delainey and Alex opted for the bigger rides. In retrospect, this was not a good starting point for Alex.

Luke and Reece decided on the tamer construction truck ride.

Fun times.

Then the big kids rode some more rides. No one looks real sure about the Tilt-a-Whirl!

And Luke rode the Construction Truck again :)

Claire enjoyed people watching with Grandpa.

Then Daddy got to ride the trucks!

And then he got to ride the Spider...and then he realized he's not as young as he used to be.
In the words of Luke, "ALL DONE!!!"

Party Animal

Luke had one of those birthdays that seemed to last FOREVER! It was a weekend full of celebrating. Which means, there are lots of pictures. Enjoy :)

He got some birthday wrestling with his sister aka favorite person in the world.Then he got to have dinner with both sets of his grandparents. What a luck boy!

He was really into opening his presents and wanted to play with everything right away.

He was even excited with clothes!

He was thrilled with his Lightening McQueen quad.

Of course he had to try it out immediately!

We got up bright and early on Party Day #2 and Luke and Alex played a little basketball.

"I did it!!!!"Doesn't it just melt your heart? It does mine!

Even on your birthday, you gotta stop and smell the roses.

Party Time!
All I can say is thank goodness we have a big play room! There was some fun to be had.

And what's a party without Connie's Cookies? Especially cute train cookies!And then there were more presents...and hands in pants. Happy Birthday.

And an outfit change. He really liked the Darth Vader shirt and had to wear it ASAP.

What's a 2 year old birthday party without a meltdown? I wouldn't know, because we had one. I think he was on present overload.

But after a couple minutes, he was back in game.

After the party, we headed down to the Fall Festival with cousins Delainey and Reece to ride "fast" rides and watch fireworks! Couldn't have been a better birthday weekend!

Pumpkin Patch

We spent an afternoon with friends at the KC Pumpkin Patch last weekend. It's was a great time!
Luke loved all the little pumpkins.

The wagon ride out to the patch was the GREATEST THING EVER!!! He is still talking about how he rode the tractor! (even though he didn't actually ride a tractor)

He's telling us how heavy the pumpkin is!
Since the big pumpkins were too heavy, he opted to grab the smaller pumpkins
and strategically arrange them in piles of four. Always, piles of four.

This was the closest I could get to a smile from Claire with the pumpkins.And of course, the ride back was THE GREATEST THING EVER!

A Plethora of Pouts

Claire is a pouter. I don't know why she does it. It doesn't signify what kind of mood she is in. Most often, a loud squeal of joy follows the pout. We think the weight of her cheeks pulls that bottom lip out.
Whatever the reason, I think it's adorable.

5 months

This little bugger is already 5 months old! She's is growing up so fast!

She can do a full 360 roll and scoot across the floor in an inch worm fashion.
She's still working on those darn teeth, but manages to stay cheerful most of the times.
She still pouts...a lot, but it's not an indicator of her mood.
She loves her jumper. She hates her bumbo--so much that she flings herself out of it.
She adores her big brother.
She is a MAJOR Momma's girl. I love that about her.

Sham-What?

SHAM-WOW!!! Cross it off my Christmas list; Picked up these beauties 75% off at BBB. Is it a coincidence that the day before I bought a SlapChop for 75% at Babies R Us? Maybe it's a sale on pitchman Vince Shlomi's stuff. Either way, I'm thrilled with both purchases. As is Luke. He's an infomercial fan too.

So far, the best use of the Sham-WOW has been a ramp for Lightning McQueen.

Highway to the Danger Zone

The Tobia Men (Luke, Alex & Grandpa) headed to airshow last weekend to see the Thunderbirds! Luke loves planes, so you know he had a good time. I know he had a good time because he still tells me multiple times a day about the "loud big planes".

I think Alex looks a little like Maverick here...

As great as the planes were, I don't know if they beat out the school bus on Luke's

Greatest of All Time list.

Every time he sees a school bus, he shouts "I DID RIDE A SCHOOL BUS!" and he wants to get on it and cries when he realizes he's not getting on it. It's fun.

Aren't you supposed to keep your head inside the bus?

And he loves the plane Grandpa bought him. It's his new favorite toy. You can almost hear him making his plane sounds, can't you!

We loaded up the car for the long drive from Wichita to Hutchinson for the Kansas State Fair (I may have been under the impression it was a 3 hour drive. I may have been made fun of for that). Luke had a great time breathing in the (not so) fresh air and walking all over. He had no choice but to walk as we, parents of the year, forgot a stroller!Hoofin' it with Daddy.

The best part of the fair for me was that Toyota was a sponsor, so they had a new Swagger Wagon that we got to try out. Luke approves!

After drooling over a minivan, we finally took Luker to see some animals.

It would have been a good day to buy stock in Purell. Gah-ross

After Luke extricated his fingers from the nose of whatever that animal is, he cleaned off in the fountains!

Wow! How is that for a farmers tan?! Let me get some sunglasses to stop that glare!

Then it was on to the way over priced train ride!

Hot and sleepy on the train. He may not show it, but he was having a great time.

See! He had such a great time that he sobbed when he had to get off.

After a Pronto Pup, fried pickles, a cheeseburger, french fries, gallons of lemonade and funnel fries (funnel cake sticks-not great, more like a doughnut, but tasty) this little guy was ready to pass out and dream about Swagger Wagons. He may have made it out of the parking lot, but I don't think so.

It was a great day. A smelly day, but a great day.

He calls it "Elmo Bicycle" because of his favorite Sesame Street episode that is watched usually a minimum of 3 times a day.

Luke's Day Out

We enrolled Luke in a Kids Day Out program to give him a social life and give me a few precious hours to get stuff done or just chill out with my favorite baby girl. It sounded great in theory.

As the day got closer, I began sobbing, a lot. I don't know what I thought was going to happen to him, but it must have been horrible judging by my convulsive hysterical sobbing. I used to cherish those days when Luke would go to Miss Angel's and I would have an entire day to myself. Now the thought of not having him with me was heartbreaking! But I was assured by many that it would be "fine".

"Fine". What exactly defines "fine"? Whatever it is, I'm pretty sure it was no where in the vicinity of the church where I dropped him off.

It started off "fine". He is completely fascinated with the stained glass. When he saw it again he looked at me like I was the best mom in the world for bringing him to see it! He even tried to break in to the sanctuary to get a better look.
And then we found his room. And one of his teachers is an old classmate of Alex's! Small world. I did feel a bit better about leaving him with someone who knew Alex. Alex doesn't have many sociopaths for acquaintances, so I assumed she was trustworthy with my only sweet son.

Again, things were "fine" in the room. He liked all the toys, especially the slide. But that's when "fine" exited the building. Another boys parents did the "give mommy and daddy a hug, we're going bye-bye" and the boy started crying. This proved quite worrisome to Luke. As evident by this look.

Followed by "Why crying?" and a look of panic. So I kissed him on the head and bolted for the door, leaving him crying a top the slide. Surely, losing my "best mom in the world" status. Much to my surprise, I didn't cry. I was bit misty eyed as I heard his blood curdling scream as I exited the church, but I felt a sense of peace- that he would be "fine".

"Fine" he was not. When I went to pick him up he was snuggled up in his teachers lap (yeah, you read that right. Snuggled! in someone's lap! Luke!!! My non-snuggler) That was clue number 1 that things had not been great. Clue number 2? The change of clothes. It seems Luke was so upset he made himself vomit-on Alex's friend. This is the part where it may have been better not to have known this very nice woman. I mean, what do you say? I believe what I said was "Oh, he usually reserves that for hair cuts". So KDO ranks right up there with the trauma of hair cutting. J.O.Y.

So the self pride I felt in not crying when I dropped him off, quickly vanished after picking him up. He looked so pathetic that I sat in the parking lot sobbing for a good 15 minutes before feeling emotionally ready to drive us home safely. I felt like I tortured my sweet boy for 3 hours. And why? Because I wanted him to have fun. That worked out well. So now I am even more anxious about doing it again this week. I KNOW I need to send him back and eventually, he will be "fine" and enjoy being there. But how long will it take?

We love Tanganyika Wildlife Park. It's the perfect place for a 2 year old's attention span! We pretty much had the run of the place when we went this week and the animals were loving the attention from Luker.Of course, it seems silly to pay to go somewhere, when all he really needs to be entertained is a puddle.

And then there were the bunnies. He L.O.V.E.D. the bunnies!

and they loved him.

Despite his pleading "come here kitty", the kangaroos decided to stay where they were.

Luke has a super fun Aunt! He really, really loves going to Auntie Shana's house. Maybe it's the triple chocolate brownies, or the "no bedtime" rule, or the fact that she took him outside to play with a LAWNMOWER!-does it get better than that?But what I think he loves most, is when she tells him secrets.

Luke sure does love Auntie Shana! That's not the secret. I was not let in on the secret- it was just between Auntie Shana and Luke. They traded secrets all weekend!

Our little baby girl is 1/3 of a year old! When did that happen? Sometimes it seems like we just brought her home, well to Grandma and Grandpa's home, and sometimes it seems like she's always been here. She has made our lives challenging and wonderful all at once.

Now for the important stuff!
She is a whopping 15lbs 3oz (80th percentile), 27 inches long (98th percentile), and is in the 96th percentile for head circumference (I was too amazed with her height to remember what her head measured!)
She has 4 teeth already! Someone is going to be ready for Thanksgiving Dinner!

She has absolutely stolen my heart!

Pittsburgh or Bust!

So tomorrow we head out for our big Pittsburgh (PA not KS) trip! As much as I LOVE to travel, I hate getting there. I just wish we could wake up tomorrow and be there. But I suppose then we would miss out on the potential crying, kicking, screaming, peeing, pooping, vomiting and general fun that is a soon to be 4 month old and a 22 month old, all in a small confined space! At least there will be stories to blog about I guess!

We took Luke (and Claire) to Kansas City for the weekend and decided to have a "Train Day". We got in Friday night just as the storm hit. So no swimming for Luker. What is one to do in a hotel room with no TV because the storm knocked the signal? Enact the "Jumping on Hotel Beds is Allowed" policy. And boy did he jump!Until he discovered the closet which took up a great deal of the evening.

Man, he needed that hair cut!

We got up bright and early and got Luke's hair cut-vomiting included and then headed to Union Station!

Luke got to ride c0-pilot!
He LOVED the miniature trains! Unfortunately, the lighting was too bad to get some good pictures. But trust me, he LOVED it!
Then we played with toys in the gift shop until someone almost lost an eye.
Then we stopped.
Luke showed his train to the dinosaur.
I think he was a little scared of the BIG train.
Then to top it all off, we went to Fritz's for lunch.
And french fries dipped in chocolate milkshakes. Yeah, he's my son.It was a great day!

Claire fits in her jumper! YAY! Actually, she is tall enough for the jumper. She doesn't "fit" unless she has three blankets and a pillow behind her, but it's progress. I remember how much more stuff I was able to get done when Luke was in this jumper! Hopefully, it will be the same with Claire. At least I don't have to worry about Luke stepping on her anymore-only Shaken Baby Syndrome since he really, really, REALLY wants to bounce her. We're working on it.She loves all the new toys to play with.

We took a little excursion to the Ethnic Enrichment Festival in Kansas City this past weekend. Luke had a great time running around and people watching. However, our μικρό αγόρι had an even better time devouring his gyro! Who knew?!Shovelin' it in...mmmmm.

Given the great photo ops, I was hoping to grab a shot for birthday invitations. However, the gyro was all over his adorable little face! Maybe next time.

Miss Claire is FINALLY big enough to sit in her super-duper-awesome stroller. So we loaded "Goose" and "Maverick" up to walk to the park. They were excited-can't you tell?
Okay, I was excited.

Claire discovered her toes, and that has captivated most of her attention today. More so than a super-duper-awesome stroller.
Unfortunately, said super-duper-awesome stroller had three fairly flat tires due to not being used in months. So Goose and Mav ejected.

Maverick decided to walk.

Goose decided to ride, too fascinated with her toes to care what she was riding in.
Luke had a great time playing at the park. Love that it's just around the corner. Now if it would only drop below 98 degrees, we would all have a great time.
Have I mentioned she found her toes? She's almost as obsessed with them as her brother is!
After a lot of sliding, climbing, swinging, and toe staring, Luke pushed his sister home. We only had a few curb mishaps, one of which happened shortly after this picture was taken.
Everyone survived.

It was a lovely stroll--not super-duper-awesome--but lovely.

3 months already! So hard to believe how much one little person can change in such a short amount of time. Of course, all changes for the better! Sweet cheeks is still sleeping well through the night and starting to stay up more during the day. She is eating a ton, as evidenced by her glorious thighs! In stiff competition with her brother, she babbles A LOT and I'm pretty sure she sings to me as well. Little Miss Overachiever has even started rolling over and we're 89% sure she's trying to cut a tooth! Wouldn't you know, Luke gets all his teeth just in time for Claire to start. Although not everyone agrees, I can't help but see her brother every time I look at her. She has my eyes, but the rest is Luker. Luke has taken to calling her "Quaires", which means that is what I call her most of the time. She has so many nicknames I fear she will never learn her actual name. However, I feel "Quaires" is a keeper! Not sure why it's plural, it just is.
As easy as she is to smile, she is just as easy to pout. It's a heart-breaker of a pout too.

Yeah, she's got us good.

Clairabelle still likes to keep her ankles crossed, just like in the many sonogram pictures I have of her. It's less frustrating now :)

Pool Time

There was a day last week that it was 107 degrees. Not even kidding. 107! So, we put the pool under as much shade as possible on the covered deck so the kids could swim. It was Claire's first pool experience. She was okay with it. The water was warm (warms up pretty fast when it's 107 degrees outside). She was having an okay time with her feet in the water.

Until Luke started splashing.

4th of July ( a month later)

Okay, so I'm a month late on these pictures. As far as I'm concerned, that ain't bad!
We ventured "back home" as I still call it, to spend the holiday with family and friends. I had a much needed trip back to the hospitals to see some of my girlies and show of Miss Claire. I also may have done a tad of shopping at one of my favorite stores "Baby Kisses". Claire may have got some unnecessary new outfits-and matching head bands-with HUGE flowers. I'm just saying she may have.

We also got to hang out with some of our old Wednesday night dinner crew. It was great to see everyone, but did make me more than a little homesick.

Luke and Claire had a fantastic 4th. Luke loved the fireworks and would shout "BOOM" constantly. Apparently they made quite an impact since a week later, he was still looking out the windows shouting "BOOM". Bless his heart. Of course he loved playing with his cousins Reece and Delainey, as always :)

Claire slept through the festivities, as always.

I am not sure it the hotdog ruins a great picture of Delainey and her Mommy, or if it makes it AWESOME!

One good thing stemming from my lack of a green thumb, is the dirt left behind that Luke gets to play with. We've tried all summer to keep these once beautiful plants alive (a mother's day gift from the Master Gardner Mother-in-Law--oops! They really were stunning!). We moved them from sun to shade and back again. Luke is excellent at watering them religiously. If we're being honest, some days said watering constitutes his only bath-he will let me pour it on his head without causing him to throw up.

I haven't given up yet, there is still some color, so they're only "mostly dead", right?

Luke is under the impression that you blow on all flowers, dead or alive. I taught him to blow the dandelion seeds last year, apparently that little lesson stuck with him!

The best part of watering? MUD
Apparently, he's trying to get the dirt off of his feet.Eventually, he got frustrated and the fun was over!

Summer Fun

We have spent a few swim days at Auntie Krista & Uncle Jeff's pool. Luke is getting pretty comfortable in the water. So much so that he wants to walk right off the edge into the water. We need to work on "jumping" off the edge!

It seems Luke was none to happy to wear the pretty pink and green jacket. Sorry Mommy forgot to bring yours!

We went to "Toddler Swim" at the Y yesterday and Luke had a blast! The slide was a big hit! He is still talking about it...a lot.

As adorable as he is in swim gear, I am ready to see him in a jacket and hat and mittens.

2 Months

My little darling is 2 months old! Hard for us to believe. She's changing so fast, it's scary. However, we are loving every second of it. Like her brother, she's a dream baby. Sleeping 8 hours at night without so much as a peep, usually only crying when she's hungry (with the exception of 6pm-8pm where she will scream bloody murder in an attempt to stay awake. Let's hope she gets over that soon, mmm?), and giving up those gorgeous gummy smiles when you talk to her (especially to her brother's high pitch squeal "QUAIRES!!"). So in short, we adore her.

She's growing, growing, growing! 12lbs and 23 3/4 inches long! Keep it up, baby!

is just the sweetest. He's been through SO much the past 2 months and has amazed me with how he handled everything. I am positive I had more meltdowns than he did! In the matter of weeks he went from a crib, to a toddler bed, to a big boy full sized bed- and he loves it! (I'm sure the sheets with cars and buses has a lot to do with that!) He has been tossed from grandparent's house to grandparent's house to a new house- and he loves it! And perhaps the biggest change came in the form of a 9 1/2 lb bundle of noise- and boy does he love her! He especially loves kissing her and squealing "Hey Claire Bear!" every time he sees her. Considering prior to her birth, if he saw a baby, or a picture of a baby, he would shout "NO!" and swat at it, I am beyond pleased with his reaction to her. I was concerned Claire would need a helmet to protect her from flying fists...but it seems she may need one to protect her from all the kisses that are showered upon her.

Luke was a big help to his dad installing the baby gate. While he doesn't really need it and has gotten quite used to not having a gate up, we figured it was best since it will have to come up in a few months anyway. Once it was up, Luke asked to "open" the gate and when I said "no", he replied with "Not nice". I do love him dearly. Sorry Mommy's not nice.

Reece taught him a bit about football. Luke actually has a decent throw already!

Because I am tired, I will not sort these pictures in any manner that makes sense. I am just proud of myself for actually remembering to take some pictures this month and post them!

Luke is finally starting to adjust to the many changes going on. Thank goodness. We still have moments, but that's to be expected. We are really quite fortunate to have family around to help out so much!

Grandma Susie bought Luke a lawn mower. And he mowed.

And mowed.

But don't think he did all that mowing for free! Oh no, he gets paid PLENTY in "gookies" which translates to anything sweet. In this case, strawberry shortcake. Totally worth the work!

We took Luke to play one day. It seems we have developed some "sharing issues" that need working on. We also discovered an unusual love of hula hoops...

...oh, and he meows like a cat ALL.THE.TIME!!! No idea where that came from, but I am a bit concerned. This move may have been too much for the poor boy.

Went straight to her mouth!

In just about every picture I have of this baby, she has her feet near her mouth. She was even sucking and playing with her toes during the sonogram.
